Beauty Trend Alert: Is Skin Cream the new Skin of Glass?

Glass Skin suffered its fair share of beauty mania in 2019 – and it’s easy to see why. The super shiny finish that strutted across many catwalks and shone in the subdued spotlight of many photoshoots, is a look that screams healthy skin. It’s that post-facial glow a hundred times. It’s the complete antithesis of dry, dull skin through winter, so why wouldn’t we have jumped on the bandwagon?

The appearance of glass skin is the product of the Korean style skin care regimes that have been obsessing us a bit lately. For many, the look of glass skin comes down to layers of lotions, potions, essences, and serums, all of which have a sheer, glossy finish.

However, according to trend forecasters, it looks like the “glass skin effect” is about to undergo a bit of moderation. As many know, getting a glass skin finish often comes at the cost of a pretty wet and sticky face, which isn’t great if you intend to walk down the street on a windy day with strands of hair stuck to your serum. The next phases of the glass skin in its trend evolution is the cream skin. Speaking to Stylecaster, Soko Glam co-founder Charlotte Cho explained that skin cream is both a product innovation and a skin finish. Regarding the product, Charlotte explained it as “a fusion of a toner and a moisturizer that’s not as heavy as the name suggests, but milky in texture.” OK, that’s what we’re here for, and now the look?

The finish this product gives is a subtle dew that we can probably mimic with light moisturizers and touches of serum here and there. Take a look at the red carpets of 2019 and you will notice that this is actually one of the must-have looks of skin-conscious celebrities like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who want to counter the intensity of the spotlight while maintaining a little dew. Cream skin is a cut below glass skin on the glow scale. You want to be able to see a touch of glow on the top of your cheeks, the center of your forehead, the tip of your nose, and your chin, but it should come via a serum or moisturizer, not a super reflective highlighter. Understood? Keep an eye out for this trend, it’s going to be a big deal.
