HUddersfield-based glass maker Specialist Glass Products recently hosted two production crews from Channel 4 to film behind the scenes of their factory for upcoming episodes of Amazing Spaces and Grand Designs.
Architect and TV presenter George Clarke visited the Milnsbridge factory with his production company Amazing Productions to film George Clarke’s new series Amazing Spaces. The episode will see the renovation of a former police station and features a tempered glass floor for a catwalk.
In the episode, which is set to air in October, George learns about the processes by which glass is tempered. Andrew Taylor, Managing Director of Specialist Glass Products, led a personal tour of the factory. The tour started with Andrew showing George the robotic arm that selects large panes to break down, demonstrating how glass is cut and polished, after which it undergoes the tempering process by being subjected to intense heat, then cooled quickly to harden. the material. . The tour ended with a demonstration of how glass is laminated and glued for added security.
Grand Designs’ production team also visited the glass expert’s factory to film an upcoming episode in which large custom-made curved glass panes are made for a property undergoing renovations in Cheshire.
After significant investments in 2019, during which the company took delivery of new machines to increase its manufacturing capacity by 80%, it is now one of the few glass manufacturers in the country able to bend glass measuring up to ‘to 6000 mm by 32000 mm.
