People in Glass Houses shouldn’t throw stones, but they should have parties, especially at this Glass House which is outside of Joshua Tree National Park. Known as the Invisible House, the elongated 22-story âhorizontal skyscraperâ is like a mirror-covered mirage in the desert. This unique getaway is one of Joshua Tree’s most sought after properties.
One reviewer called it “a work of inhabitable art in the midst of a very unique landscape”. He has been seen in design and lifestyle publications like Architectural summary, Dezeen, TMZ, Business intern, and Therapy Apartment – Here’s why.
Designed by experts
The 90-acre property is owned by film producer Chris Hanley, known for films such as The suicide virgins, and American psychopath. He designed the building with Tomas Osinski, artist, architect and industrial designer. Osinski has collaborated with Frank Gehry (designer of the Guggenheim Museum) on several projects, including the magnificent Delft porcelain fountain at the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
The fully electric house incorporates the most advanced materials and technologies available. With an environmental carbon footprint close to zero, it is as green as it gets.
Access to Joshua Tree National Park
The property has its own 4,000-foot peak and is full of hiking trails to explore. Half a mile of it is bordered by Joshua Tree National Park. Guests have direct access to the Desert View conservation area of ââthe national park. Although secluded, The Invisible House is located just 10 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree.
Mirror mirror on the wall
The sleek, minimalist 5,500 square foot home offers wall-to-wall views of the rocks. Mirrored glass allows the building to blend into the surrounding desert landscape while providing stunning panoramic views from within. Floor-to-ceiling doors open to allow guests to become one with the desert.
Take a dip
A luxurious 100-foot solar-heated indoor pool takes up much of the interior.
Light up the night
Controllable multi-color LED interior lighting allows you to customize the color of the pool and house!
The ultramodern fully equipped kitchen features elegant Italian designs by Boffi. The âbright white and marble open kitchen,â as described by VRBO, includes two sinks, two ovens, and an oversized island. A 13 foot dining table provides a more formal dining area. Outside, the Arteflame barbecue / hotplate turns into a fire pit for stargazing in the desert.
Sleep like a king
Three large luxurious suites with king beds can accommodate six people. The guest beds are pure marble, while the master suite’s bed frame is solid glass. Weighing two tons, the glass bed was designed by Santambrogiomilano. The Ligne Roset and Tempur-Pedic mattresses are covered with Frette sheets and plenty of pillows. Every bedroom has remote control blackout shades, but who would want to miss this desert sunrise?
Boffi designs are spread across the four full bathrooms, which feature open steel and glass rainfall showers and Gessi Rectangolo and Duravit fixtures. The master suite has a Boffi SWIM freestanding bathtub for soaking up.
A favorite destination for artists, the Invisible House comes with its own Invisible Dan Armstrong electric guitar and amp. Listen to the music you want, wherever you want, on the Bose portable home speaker. There’s also a massive 86-inch TV in the living room with streaming services as well as a Blu-Ray DVD with dozens of recent movies.
A separate one bedroom OMD prefab guesthouse is automatically added for groups of seven or eight. The 720 square foot home is just steps from the main house, with some of its same luxurious touches. It has floor-to-ceiling windows, a Piero Lissoni king-size bed and a modern and ecological design.
